Samsung could be preparing to launch an entirely new foldable line this year. It may look quite different from the phones we’ve seen so far in the Galaxy Z range.

According to industry tipster Digital Chat Station, Samsung is currently developing a “wide” foldable device. This device could debut alongside, rather than replace, its existing Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip models.

If accurate, this would mark the first time Samsung has expanded its foldable lineup beyond the two familiar formats.

The biggest change appears to be the display shape. The device is said to feature a 7.6-inch internal display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, giving it a more tablet-like layout when unfolded. Consequently, that could make multitasking, reading documents and split-screen apps feel more natural. This is especially true compared to the taller screen found on the current Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Of course, a wider screen inside could also mean a much broader device when folded. This may make one-handed use more difficult. That trade-off is likely the biggest design question Samsung would need to address before launch.

Under the hood, the leak points to a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which would line up with a 2026-class flagship device if the timeline holds. The phone is also tipped to include a battery around 4800mAh. Reportedly, this battery is split across two cells – a common design for foldables where internal space is divided by the hinge.

For now, availability may be limited. The leak suggests the device could launch first in China. However, Samsung often expands its foldables globally once production ramps up.

If the rumours hold true, Samsung’s wide foldable could represent the company’s next attempt to refine the category. This comes especially as competitors like Apple and Huawei continue exploring larger foldable designs of their own.
