Leapmotor opens the controls for its B05 electric compact. With an entry ticket set at €25,400, the car becomes the cheapest electric compact on the French market, slipping under the MG4. Is there a catch?
Beyond the obvious admiration, we really wonder how they did it. Chinese brand of the Stellantis group, Leapmotor has just caused a local earthquake by revealing the prices of its new electric compact, the B05. With a base price starting at €25,400, the car quite simply becomes the most affordable electric vehicle in the C segment on the French market. Even the MG4, although reputed to be cheap, is soundly beaten by selling for €8,000 more! Where is the scam?
Space on board and 435 liter trunk: the B05 has families in mind
At 4.43 meters long and 1.88 meters wide, the car is truly a compact that has space to spare with its 435 liter trunk. In addition to the 25 storage spaces available on board, the rear seat backrest can be reclined up to 27 degrees to improve comfort over long distances. This is rare equipment in the segment. The panoramic roof is more traditional, but its presence remains appreciable. Same thing for the front seats, heated and in synthetic leather.
The multimedia part is provided by a 14.6-inch central touch screen supplemented by an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. The smartphone key is also available to control multiple functions such as air conditioning, door locking or even battery preheating. Access to the real-time status of the vehicle as well as its location is also possible. And in the technical chapter too, Leapmotor has not made any savings with suitable services.
Up to 482 km of range: the two batteries of the Leapmotor B05
The electromotor developing 218 hp and 240 Nm of torque guarantees sufficient performance in this sense. Two battery sizes will be offered to satisfy uses. The basic accumulator named Pro has a capacity of 56.2 kWh for a range of 401 km on the WLTP cycle. The superior ProMax pack of 67.1 kWh ensures a maximum range of 482 km. Two batteries, therefore, but also two finishes at well-placed prices.
Bonuses and aid: can the final price of the B05 drop further?
The Life version in Pro battery entitles you to the floor price of €25,400. Associated with the ProMax battery, its price increases to €27,400. To benefit from better equipment, the Design version is priced at €28,400 when only combined with the ProMax battery. Without being more precise on the allocation, Leapmotor mentions “ additional comfort features, more refined interior materials and an improved audio system “. Note that the Leapmotor B05 is eligible for an EEC bonus of €380.
