Xpeng enriches its European range with the X9, an enormous minivan with incredible luxury. Seven countries are currently affected. Will France benefit from this Chinese colossus with record charging?
Xpeng currently has three cars in its French range: the G6 and G9 SUVs as well as the P7+ sedan. Problem is, these models are quite imposing and not very suitable for our small roads. However, a fourth vehicle is approaching. So you were expecting something smaller? Lost, it’s even bigger! Here is the X9, a 5.32 meter long electric minivan and 1.99 meters wide with very high-end ambitions. Disappointed ? A compact will arrive later, be patient!
Priority to Northern and Eastern Europe
In the meantime, this X9, which has some great qualities, will set down its wheels in seven European countries: Germany, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary. France could follow in the coming weeks, although nothing has yet been officially confirmed. What is certain in any case is that the X9 will benefit froman explosive recharge allowing a full flash. We were already amazed by the G6 and its 451 kW of DC direct current. Hold on tight, the X9 pushes the limit to 542 kW!
542 kW of power: why such fast charging is a trap for your wallet
What to move on from 10 to 80% battery in 12 minutes. This can potentially become problematic for two reasons. The first is that it remains difficult today to find terminals delivering such power. Ionity is gradually rolling out stalls delivering up to 600 kW, but they are still rare. The second is that charging becomes so fast that it will be complicated to stop charging in time in order to avoid absorbing excess kilowatt hours billed at high prices.
Huge battery and XXL autonomy
And blocking remote charging will force you to pay occupancy fees… 12 minutes is therefore short, and it’s all the more impressive since the batteries of the X9 are not modest : it will be either 94.8 kWh for 535 km of autonomy, or 110 kWh for 615 km of autonomy. In both cases it will be a traction unit developing 319 hp. A more powerful version with two engines is also available. With 503 hp and a range reduced to 580 km, however, it is difficult to determine its interest.
A luxury living room on wheels: giant screens and sleeping seats in the rear
The The strengths of the X9 are indeed elsewhere, starting with its XXL interior. In addition to extremely generous space, rear passengers will be able to benefit from a 21.4-inch screen for entertainment. Their seats are heated, massaging, ventilated and reclining up to 180°. Those in the third row are also electric.
Amazing equipment and premium prices: what to expect?
The front cell, for its part, adopts an architecture strongly reminiscent of the other models, with refined furniture dominated by a 17.3-inch touch screen. The equipment would be mind-blowing, including a 27-speaker sound system, a refrigerator, a head-up display, an interior rear-view camera, air suspension, 20-inch rims, pentazone air conditioning, four-wheel steering, a 360° camera, a transparent chassis, etc.
We won’t dwell on the style, which is really special. Pricing can, however, be a source of debate: if French prices remain unresolved, German prices are known. And they are naturally high, and even the highest in the range with an entry ticket set at €77,600 for the model equipped with the 94.8 kWh battery. The version equipped with the 110 kWh accumulator climbs to €81,600 while the twin-engine version completes the whole package by asking €86,600.
