4. Unexpected failures

The dream of every HR manager and project manager is an already well-coordinated, internal team – processes, working methods and expectations are well known within the team. A short-term absence due to illness can be even more serious. In the case of long-term absences, using a freelancer is often the right solution: the team is not overloaded and the employment relationship with the freelancer can be ended at short notice as soon as the lost employee can return to work.

What are the advantages of employing new employees on a permanent basis?

1. Strategic knowledge creation

Even if we think of more and more tasks as projects in the context of New Work, there are still tasks in companies that need to be looked after on a long-term basis, grow over a long period of time and mesh with one another. Likewise, the results of various projects must remain with the company in the long term. To do this, it is worth investing in the often complex search for personnel and longer training periods for permanent employees – in order to continuously build and strengthen the company’s own core.

2. Strategic continuity

Decisions in IT – just like in other areas of the company – can influence developments in the coming years. Even if the company has to remain open to new developments, a certain continuity, for example in the selection of IT staff, is just as important. This continuity allows a company to set up a long-term human resources strategy – and to continuously build up an internal team that can help the company within the chosen IT strategy.

3. Generalist instead of specialist

A company’s IT department has many tasks – some of which require technical specialists, others more generalists and IT managers. It makes sense to be able to rely on employees who will remain with the company long-term, especially for issues such as making important decisions, managing employees and also when setting up entire departments. This is about decisions that can influence companies for years to come. Companies should not leave these decisions (exclusively) to external parties who will not support them for years. Nevertheless, the input of external specialists on the way to such a decision is very valuable.
