Amazon has announced within the framework of MWC 2026 in Barcelona his commitment to increase its investment in Spain to reach 33.7 billion dollarswhich adds 18,000 million to the 15,700 initially approved by the company. The purpose of this increase in investment is to facilitate the expansion and support of its data center infrastructure, with the aim of offering advanced AI and cloud computing capabilities to organizations across Europe.

In addition to data centers, Amazon plans to build facilities related to the supply chain in Aragon, which will directly support data center operations in Spain and Europe. The project will include a factory dedicated to the assembly and final testing of servers, a logistics warehouse, and a facility for the manufacturing and repair of AI and machine learning servers.

Amazon began its commitment to operating data centers in Spain with the launch of the AWS Europe (Spain) region in Aragon in November 2022, already operational. This announced investment will support the growing demand for cloud computing and AI, accelerate AI adoption and capabilities, and impact the modernization of companies and organizations of all sizes in Spain and Europe. AWS will also make cloud and AI capabilities available to public institutions in the region and the country, such as universities, professional training centers and research institutes.

Among the organizations and companies that use the AWS region in Aragon are Telefónica, BBVA, Iberia, Indra, Iberdrola, Mapfre, Moeve, Multiverse Computing, Idealista, Ibercaja, WiZink, Government of Aragon, IE, Insud Pharma, Grupo Editorial Edelvives, Grupo San Jorge, Smadex, ONCE and the Spanish Red Cross. Since its arrival in Spain in 2011, Amazon has invested more than 20 billion euros in the country in its commercial operations, logistics network, cloud infrastructure and AI, as well as in different programs.

David Zapolsky, General Counsel and Vice President of Global Public Policy at Amazonhas highlighted that «On Amazon’s 15th anniversary in Spain, this new investment in infrastructure reinforces our long-term commitment and will be fundamental for the country’s digital and economic future. We are supporting Europe’s digital capabilities and expanding the cloud and AI infrastructure that companies and organizations already use to grow and innovate«.
