bad news, prices are increasing

The players of Fortnite will soon have to get used to a change in the game’s economy for the first time in years. Epic Games has announced a change to the pricing of its virtual currency, V-Bucks, which will come into effect March 19, 2026. The news is not necessarily encouraging at first because for the same Price, players will now receive fewer V-Bucks than before.

But the situation is actually a little more nuanced. At the same time, Epic Games has decided to reduce the price of several Battle Passes, which means that the majority of players should ultimately not be strongly impacted by this development. Let’s see what happens.

Less generous V-Bucks packs

The change first concerns the V-Bucks packs available for purchase. From March 19, some of them will offer less currency for the same price.

The entry-level pack at 8.99 euros, for example, will no longer give 1,000 V-Bucks but 800 V-Bucks. The intermediate pack at 22.99 euros goes from 2,800 to 2,400 V-Bucks, while the one at 36.99 euros will fall from 5,000 to 4,500 V-Bucks. Even the premium pack at 89.99 euros is affected, with 12,500 V-Bucks instead of 13,500 previously.

Epic Games justifies this decision by the increase in costs linked to the operation of the game. The studio explains in its official post that the operating cost of Fortnite has increased significantly, which forces it to adjust prices in order to maintain the economic balance of the service.

An increase that does not affect the majority of players

While the announcement may seem worrying, it will not necessarily concern the majority of players. In Fortnitemost users spend their V-Bucks primarily to purchase each season’s Battle Pass, which unlocks many cosmetic items through gameplay and enough V-Bucks to redeem a Battle Pass if all tiers are unlocked in time.

However, Epic Games has decided to reduce the price of these passes to align with the new pricing. The main Battle Pass will therefore go from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks. This means that technically, it is still accessible at the same price, namely 8.99 euros. Players who settle for the Battle Pass will not pay more than before.

Several passes affected by the drop

This price drop does not only concern the classic Battle Pass. The OG Battle Pass also goes from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks, while the Music Pass goes down from 1,400 to 1,200 V-Bucks. Same logic for the LEGO Pass, the price of which is also reduced to 1,200 V-Bucks.

At the same time, the Fortnite Crew subscription will now offer 800 V-Bucks per month instead of 1,000, while the Battle Bundle will see its price decrease slightly.

In fact, this price increase mainly concerns players who regularly purchase skins or individual cosmetic items in the game store. This type of purchase represents a significant part of the title’s revenue and Epic Games is visibly adjusting this economic model to follow the evolution of costs.
