China tightens oversight of online ticket platforms, targets paid priority purchase claims

The Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation recently conducted an administrative interview with 12 major online ticket-selling platforms, including Ctrip, Fliggy, Qunar, Tongcheng, Meituan, JD.com, TravelSky, Gaotie Manager, Didi, Amap, Baidu Maps, and Tencent Maps, to address irregularities in online train ticket sales.

Regulators have explicitly required these platforms to prohibit any explicit or implicit suggestions that consumers can obtain priority ticket-purchasing privileges through paid services, rectify misleading promotions such as speed-up packages and ticket-availability monitoring, and remove products suspected of false advertising.

Platforms must also clearly display prices and curb price fraud linked to inadequate disclosure of value-added services. Authorities said they will step up enforcement, crack down on illegal practices such as fraudulent ticket grabbing, promote industry standardization, and safeguard consumers’ fair trading rights.
