Intel Hiring More Linux Developers – Including For GPU Drivers / Linux Gaming Stack

As some good news out of Intel today on the Linux/open-source side following last year’s layoffs, they’re hiring for some new Linux software development roles — including for enhancing their Linux graphics driver stack that also includes a focus on Linux gaming with the likes of Valve’s Proton (Steam Play).

Intel passed along six new engineering roles they have posted as recently as yesterday — three of which are for GPU software development engineers where the focus isn’t only on HPC/AI GPU compute but also Linux gaming.

There are three new roles for GPU software development engineers (one, two, and three). The roles largely similar and are to work on Intel Linux GPU support. They are looking for those experienced already in the Linux graphics stack from Mesa to the Linux DRM kernel drivers. While AI / machine learning is mentioned to no surprise, it is nice to see they also are looking for those experienced with the “Linux gaming stack” and do mention Wine and Proton. So these roles aren’t about only enhancing Intel Linux graphics for the data center and AI but should help Linux gaming on Intel hardware too.

Intel is also hiring a senior middleware development engineer to work on areas around Intel MPICH, MPICH, and more for more HPC/compute focused and specifically mention the Aurora supercomputer. Both Intel CPUs and GPUs stand to benefit. Besides that senior role, there is also another middlware development engineer role they are hiring for too.

Lastly, Intel is also hiring a senior cloud software development engineer. to focus on Intel CPUs and GPUs in the data center. Linux and C/C++ experience is expected and a focus on parallel programming and other specialized experience.

Intel Arizona

It’s great seeing Intel back to hiring more for Linux engineering and hopefully this continues to grow as the year progresses.
