McDonald’s chatbot as free AI? Why you should still keep your subscription to ChatGPT and Claude

Many AI services offer their basic functions for free. However, if you want more features, want more in-depth answers from the current models or need higher monthly limits, you can’t avoid a subscription. At least when it comes to the pricing and subscription models of Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini. However, there could be a trick to using a competent AI completely free of charge.

Is the McDonald’s chatbot too chatty?

The idea behind it comes from X-User Graphseo. He posted a screenshot of a conversation with McDonald’s chatbot. The AI should actually take care of the customer’s issues in support. But AI can apparently do even more. Graphseo writes: “Stop paying for Claude. McDonald’s AI is free and answers all your questions, even if they don’t revolve around a Big Mac.”

In the image, Graphseo is supposedly making a request to McDonald’s AI. He would like to order nuggets, but would first need to receive a specific Python script so that he can concentrate on eating. And according to the screenshot, McDonald’s AI responds with the Python script in question, even though it should only answer questions about products or incorrect deliveries.

The idea of doing without Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini is therefore not far off: McDonald’s chatbot is most likely not a specially developed model. That would be too complex and costly for the fast food chain. Instead, they rely on said companies and their models and package the AI in a so-called wrapper. There will also likely be some specially adapted guardrails so that the AI adheres to McDonald’s rules and customer support tasks.

Should users cancel their Claude and ChatGPT subscriptions now?

It is not entirely clear which AI operates behind the McDonald’s chatbot. According to Graphseo, this is Anthropic’s Claude model. However, it was only last year that McDonald’s announced that it was working with Google to integrate AI into everyday life in its branches. No matter which AI is ultimately responsible for the chatbot, you should not cancel your subscriptions for the time being. Because there are further inconsistencies in the X-User’s claim.

This is because AI cannot yet be used, at least in this country. If you call up the McDonald’s chatbot, you won’t expect any AI. We asked the chatbot the same request as in the Graphseo post and only found three choices for further posts and FAQ. This included, for example, how certain ingredients can be added or canceled or why no vegetarian nuggets are currently offered.

Editorial recommendations

It remains questionable how exactly the screenshot was taken. It would be conceivable that it is a chatbot from another country. But there is no McDonald’s chatbot in the USA. Graphseo, whose name is Julien Flot and actually comes from France, could not have used his local chatbot either. Because there, too, McDonald’s does not offer any help via AI.

In fact, the post – or at least the idea for it – doesn’t seem to have originally come from Graphseo. As early as mid-March 2026, there was an X user who allegedly performed the same trick with the AI of the fast food chain Chipotle. However, it quickly became clear that imitation was not possible and that users instead ended up with a real person in customer support with their request. There are therefore doubts under both posts as to whether the screenshots are really real or were edited afterwards.
