Office.eua 100% European and open source alternative to the productivity platforms of large technology companies, such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspacehas been formally presented in The Hague. It is developed using open source technology and works exclusively on infrastructure and data centers located in Europe. It is designed for individuals, families, professionals and SMEs who want to maintain control of their data, as well as their digital operations, within the territory of the European Union.
The platform, which several selected users from all over Europe have already tested in recent months, is designed as a complete office suite compatible with Docx, Xlsx and Pptx formats; with document editing, spreadsheet, presentation creation tool, communication utilities, email and secure data storage. Complies with all European Union data protection regulations.
The company behind Office.eu, founded in 2024, is based in The Hague and went into operation at the beginning of this year 2026. Its software is developed in part on the European platform Nextcloud, of which they are partners. Its elements are based on Nextcloud Hub and the Collabora Online office suite.
According to su CEO, Maarten Roelfsthe use of the suite is very intuitive, and the change from other American alternatives to Office.eu will not present complications. In addition, they plan to facilitate the migration of Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace with specific functions for this, and will offer desktop clients for Windows, Mac OS and Linux, as well as applications for mobile devices. Users of the suite will also be able to use its online services through the web in case they do not want to install its applications on their computers.
For now, if use is opening up little by little, by invitation, to users who have requested early access to it. For now, the prices it will have, or its different plans, are unknown, although Roelfs has assured that they will be similar to those of other alternatives and tools that are already on the market. The deployment of Office.eu is planned to expand throughout this second quarter of 2026.
According to Roelfs, the company has seen that it is increasingly important «be independent at the cloud level and depend on software developed around European values. For many years, Europe has depended on American software, which has created a certain risk of dependency, but we have also given up control over our own data. Office.eu is proof that we have a solid European alternative, based on sovereignty, privacy and transparency«.
