Oracle Updates Free Solaris CBE For Open-Source Developers / Non-Production Uses
SHARE

Four years ago Oracle announced Solaris CBE as the “Common Build Environment” version of Solaris 11.4. Oracle Solaris CBE is made available as free for open-source developers and other non-production use. Oracle this week released a new version of Solaris CBE for those wanting this free* version of Solaris.

In Oracle’s eyes to better support developers and the FOSS community, they have published a new version of the Solaris Common Build Environment that better aligns to their recent Solaris 11.4 upstream state that is available to their paying Oracle customers.

This updated Solaris CBE makes it easier for developers to try recent Solaris improvements and other “technology advances” found in Solaris 11.4 updates. Oracle continues with their plans for supporting Oracle Solaris at least until the year 2037.

Those wanting to learn more or to download this Oracle Solaris CBE 2026 update can find out all the details via the Oracle Solaris blog. Solaris CBE downloads do still require an Oracle account for access.
