Chinese autonomous driving tech firm WeRide announced on Monday that it has obtained the world’s first city-level L4 driverless commercial operation license outside the US, approved by the UAE federal government. The license authorizes WeRide to operate Robotaxi commercial services without in-vehicle safety drivers in Abu Dhabi. The permit was approved by the RegLab, which operates under the UAE Cabinet Secretariat, and the services will initially be launched through Uber and TXAI platforms. As of October, WeRide’s Robotaxi fleet in Abu Dhabi has accumulated nearly one million kilometers of operation. [WeRide, in Chinese]
